Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik (Latin: Ragusa) is a Croatian city on the south, the administrative center of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and one of the most important historical and tourist center of Croatia. City of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage in 1979. The city of Dubrovnik was founded on maritime trade with countries in the Balkans during the early Middle Ages and a lot of time was the only opponent of the Venetian Republic in the eastern part of the Adriatic. Due to the richness and skillful diplomatic relations, the city of Dubrovnik has developed substantially, especially in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Dubrovnik was the center of the development of Croatian language and literature, and the hometown of many notable poets, writers, philologists, painters, mathematicians and physicists.

Because of 260 days of sun a year Dubrovnik is a favorite destination for those who enjoy the mild Mediterranean climate and plenty of sunshine throughout the year. If we add a rich offering numerous cultural monuments and events, and the natural beauty of Dubrovnik, it is rightfully called "paradise on earth". In the immediate vicinity of Dubrovnik lies the island Lokrum which is a surface of 72 ha, one of the smallest islands in the southern coast. Because of the dense vegetation and rich flora (400 species) it has been declared a special reserve of forest vegetation. The mai tourist attraction in this park of nature are the old Benedictine monastery from the 12 th century.

At the entrance to the Bay of Zupa, there are islands Supetar, Blacking and Bobara known as Cavtat islands. Because of small areas and inhospitable shore islands are uninhabited and protected as a special ornithological reserve and a habitat for several endemic plant species. Konavle is the region of Croatia with an extremely rich history that dates back to the Paleolithic and Neolithic times. Area with specific traditions that are maintained over time, and a rich folklore that attracts many visitors who are looking for something truly special.

Dubrovnik Airport (codes LDDU DBV) is great airport all recently refurbished and extended so now can accept a lot of international traffic.
