Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia. It is an old Central European city. The city lays next to the Sava River and the Medvednica mountain.

The city has grown from two medieval settlements, and these settlements used to be surrounded by walls and towers, remains of which still survive. Zagreb became an important fortress against the Turks between the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries.

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, much of the town was reconstructed in the Baroque style and new palaces and churches were built. Many wealthy people moved into the city and the city outgrew its medieval quarters. There was a bad earthquake in 1880 and more reconstruction and modernization occurred. Trams started running through the city in 1891, drawn by horses and became run by electric in 1905. The city became a capital after Croatian independence in 1990.

Zagreb has a continental climate, and it is an important international business and trade center.

There is a lot to see and do in Zagreb, many galleries and museums as well as frequent festivals and events. The town experiences a lot of congress tourism with frequent business fairs and events. The city has plenty of recreational centers and a large stadium. There are excursion tours available for sighting within the city and the neighboring surroundings.

Main and only Airport in Zagreb named after first Croatian president Franjo Tuđman ex. Pleso (codes LDZA ZAG)  is international Airport that can accept any type of aircraft. From it to city center is easy to come with any ground transportation.
