
First Flight of new Airbus A320 NEO
After 27 years and seven months for the first time flew the new Airbus A320 Neo - equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines.
The letters "NEO" is an acronym for "new engine option" and the last phase of the modernization of model A320 Enhanced (or A320), which started in 2006. Besides the "NEO" modernization program includes enhancements such as improving the aerodynamics, a large curvature of the wings - winglets (Sharklets), weight savings, the new interior with more storage space and improved air purification system.
From factories in France, Germany and China production will reach 42 new Airbus A320-a month or about one every 17 hours. Production will increase from 42 to 44 per month in 2016, when Airbus company opens a new production line in Alabama, USA.
